Dearest Kathy, Richie, Kristen and Kelly
and family,
We are so very sorry that we didn't get the opportunity to give you all a big hug at the celebration of Rich's life. It's still so hard to believe, as it seems just like yesterday that we were all talking in Wal-Mart!
This is one of the few times in our lives, that we find ourselves without words worthy of expressing our true feelings. When what you feel is simply too deep for words and nothing anyone does or says can provide you with the relief you need, God understands. He is your provider- today, tommorrow and always.. And He loves you. Cast all of your cares on Him...and believe.
The not being able to say goodbye probably hurts the most. Being denied the chance to say "I Love You" one last time, is painful. But in your hearts know that Rich (Dad) already knew that. We will miss his gentle and caring ways and especially that smile! He just knew how to light up a room! He was a joy to know and we are blessed and honored to have known him, and to have called him a friend.
Those we hold most dear, never truly leave us...they live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives.
Always, hold the memories of Rich close to your hearts and he will always be with you!
You all were the pride and joy of his life, his reason for living.
You will all meet again someday, but unitl then....love and take care of each other.
Our love and friendship always and forever!
May God Bless you all!

Dear Kathy, Richie, Kristin and Kelly,
I have been on the clerical staff at the Department of Corrections for almost 10 years. From the beginning, it was evident that Rich was an extraordinary supervisor. He was always willing to lend a hand (or a listening ear) to anyone in need. One Friday after one of his officers had finished a particularly horrendous investigation (which I typed), Rich stated he was going home to play the piano "so his head wouldn't explode". We subsequently discussed music, and I mentioned a Christian artist, Michael W. Smith, whose songs I like. The following Monday, Rich came into the office with a tape he had made over the weekend. (I still have it) After hearing about Rich's death, at the first opportunity I had, I played that tape. It was then that I cried--the tape had been cued to Michael W. Smith's version of the Lord's Prayer! May He comfort and bless you all at this difficult time.

I worked with Rich through the Department of Corrections. I was deeply saddened by his loss and I want you to know that my prayers are for Rich's family. Also know you have the prayers of the entire Department. I knew Rich to be a friend to everyone and we will miss him very much. If there is anything I or the Department can do, please don't hesitate to let us know. May God's peace and love be with you all.

Richard,
We know you are, at this moment, with Saint Therese of Lisieux in Heaven. She is surely one of the first to greet you; my dear friend. You are now spending some time amongst the roses. In a simply way we will miss you. Your special day, on the first of October, will be one of reflection and feasting for us -while you walk hand in hand with St. Therese.
Peace, love, and serenity to you and your family. From the Darkness to the Light (Dale Tenebre Alla Luce). Let your Father lead the way. Send us a rose, Richie, when you can. Until we meet again.

I went to the Florida Corrections Academy-Class 15 in Vero Beach with Rich in 1988 and rode with him back and forth for the eight weeks. I had a great time with him and can still see him sitting on the balcony of the Days Inn in Vero with his tv tray and his loaf of bread and lunch meat. Over the years, we were together in various trainings and meetings and got promoted through the ranks together. As cases transferred through the state, we had frequent phone calls and e mails as we resolved situations. Rich was a man of his word and a true professional. He was a person that I called a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with the Rita family.

Cathy, you have my sincerest condolences in the loss of your beloved husband. I worked with Rich at the Punta Gorda Office from 1994-1998. He was always a breath of fresh air and had a wonderful sense of humor. Rich had these sayings that were golden such as : "Now were cooking with gas!" and "Where's my mice? When the cats away, the mice will play!!!" He played softball with my husband and their first season they didn't win a single game! I would go to the game and wear a bag over my head from all the shame. We joked around a lot like that. He was truly one of the nicest people that I have ever had the privelege to know! ....Myra Vicente
