Obituary of Stephen W Bates

Stephen (Steve) W. Bates, 80, of Englewood, Fl. Passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at his Charlotte County residence.

Born on January 11, 1943 in Ft. Wayne, IN. to William G. & Mildred D. Bates, Steve graduated from Northside High school, Fort Wayne, IN in 1960, served in the Navy 1960-1963, married the beloved mother of his children Rebecca Jo Harris in 1963, father of two children and several grandchildren. Survived by the deceased, is son Stephen Eric Bates and daughter. He was preceded in death by brother, Gary Bates and sister Suzanne Butler. Survived by brother, Mike Bates, Sisters Diane Barth, and JoAnn Geiger. He was proceeded in death by his life partner Nancy L. Harris in 2020. He retired from Slater steel in 1999, he served in the coast guard 1988-1998, he was a paramedic for many years, and has resided in Florida since 2004.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held by family at a later date.
