Joseph Hoak

Obituary of Joseph Franklin Hoak

Joseph Hoak

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Joseph Hoak of Englewood, Florida.  Joe, as he was known by all, was born in Donora, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1935 and left this earth on April 4, 2023, after heroically battling heart disease.

Joe worked at Great Lakes Steel in River Rouge, Michigan as a pipefitter for 34 years before retiring with his wife, Catherine (“Caye”), to Englewood, Florida in 1986.  Prior to moving to Florida, they made their home in Lincoln Park, Michigan.

Joe was the kind of person that made sure you were comfortable in his presence.  There was never a time that you walked into his home that you were not offered something to eat or drink.  He was a loving, kind, accepting, and generous man. That was his way!  He was an avid reader and enjoyed intellectual conversation.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Caye, of 48 years, his son John (Tami) Hoak and their children Michael, Rachel, and Jackson.  Joe was preceded in death by his son Joseph Allen Hoak, brother Larry Hoak, sister Georgina and niece Laurie. Joe is also leaving behind his son Joseph Allen’s children, Courtney, Joshua and Savannah.

Joe will be desperately missed by his stepchildren, Beverly (Rick) Cook of Brownstown, Michigan and Tammie Tuley of Nokomis, Florida, along with his 13 step-grandchildren.

Last but not least, his good friends, Roy Williams and Damon Williams of Englewood FL., will miss the conversations and meals shared together.

A memorial service will be held on April 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Englewood Community Funeral Home, Englewood, Florida.
