Obituary of Gerrit A. DeBorst

Our beloved husband and father, Gerrit A. "Gerry" DeBorst of Rotunda West went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2022.  He was 81-years-old.  His memorial service will be held July 16 at 2 p.m. EST at Calvary Baptist Church of Englewood, 75 Pine St.  The service will be live-streamed and is available through Facebook, YouTube, and Calbaptist.net.

Born June 30, 1941 in Rotterdam,  Holland, he was the son of late Johanna (nee deKorte) deBorst and the late Gerrit deBorst.  Gerrit is survived by his loving wife Hazel (nee Burrill) DeBorst, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. 

He is survived by two daughters,  Jennifer (Gary) Mook and Susan (Michael) O'Neill; and two sons,  Garrett (Rebecca) and Paul (Amy). He is survived by seven grandchildren:  Matthew, Jill, Kaitlin, Austen, Tyler, Devon, and Johanna. He is predeceased by his grandson Joshua.  He is also survived by three brothers Cees (predeceased Paula), Adrie (Inge), and Johan (Mia) as well as nieces and nephews.

He had a successful career as a seafood distributor, entrepreneur, and business owner, making life-long friends with his wonderful sense of humor.  He retired to Florida. He was the Chairman of the Deacon Board and trusted advisor and friend to Pastor John Boutchia.  He made a tremendous impact on everyone he touched with his extremely outgoing personality, generous heart, and a true gift for communication and leadership. He was truly blessed!
