Obituary of Wallace Norton

Wallace E. (Wally) Norton Jr. 78, of Cape Haze, FL passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 after a valiant fight against cancer, in the comfort of his home with his caregivers and the help of Tidewell Hospice. He was born on March 13, 1932 in Buffalo, NY to Wallace E. and Mabel (Michener) Norton. Wally moved from Buffalo, NY to Florida 15 years ago. In his better days, he enjoyed golf and cards with friends as well as painting beautiful landscapes. Wally worked for the family business Norton Painting and Decorating for most of his life. The business was founded by his grandfather and included 4 generations of craftsmen including his brother David Norton. Wally attended college at the University of Buffalo, and he served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Wally married his high school sweetheart Bertha in 1953. They were married for 42 years until Bert succumbed to cancer in 1995, having raised 2 children and seeing 4 grandchildren. Along with Bertha, Wally is predeceased by his long time companion Lillian Anderson. Wally was a past officer of many organizations including the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America, the Elks and was a member of American Legion Post 113 Rotonda West. Wally was loved by many including his son Larry and wife Barbara, daughter Nancy and husband Kim Molin, grandchildren Daniel (Jennifer) Norton, Jeanette Norton, Ashley and Kelly Molin and his very special friend Joyce Cassidy. An old fashioned Irish Wake will be held in Wally's honor in Buffalo at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Norton's name to the American Cancer Society 2801 Fruitville Rd.
