Obituary of Otto Paul Rosinski

Capt. Otto Paul Heinz Ferdinand Rosinski, 88, born May 26, 1921 in Gross Schirrau, East Prussia, Germany, passed away February 4, 2010, in Florida on his way to his favourite game of cards with some old friends. He swore he would live to 120, but he came up short. His life in contrast, was full to the brim with the company of great friends, family and the love of his life Elsa (nee Rossi) who predeceased him in 2006. Although his mother, Margarete Felicitas Riensberg did not survive his birth, he had the good fortune to be raised by her sister Elisabeth who married his father (Otto Ferdinand) and gave him three brothers: Dieter, Wolfgang and Christoph. In Germany he was a Captain on foreign going vessels (A-6 certificate). Elsa and he immigrated to Canada where they lived in Montreal, Quebec, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, while spending winters in Florida since 1972. Florida became a much loved second home, where Otto scuba dived and beach combed for shark's teeth and fossils well into his 80s. In Canada he had great success in his second career as a land surveyor, retiring in 1988. Also predeceasing him were his brothers Christoph, Dieter, and his young son Bernhard (1955-1961). He is survived by his son Peter (Jennifer MacLellan) and his grandchildren Regent and Remy, who he dearly loved. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend to many, who always enjoyed a good laugh, good music and good food. He will be greatly missed. Cremation to take place. The family invites all to come to a celebration of his life at the Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3070 South McCall Road, Englewood on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 1:00 Pm until 3:00 Pm.
