Obituary of Frank Carmine Pomarico

FRANK CARMINE POMARICO, 83, of Village on the Isle in Venice formerly of Rotonda West died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at his Sarasota County residence. He was born on July 10, 1926 in New Haven, Connecticut. A bronze star recipient for actions in the Battle of the Budge, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Pomarico was the Northern New England District Director for the U.S. Postal Service and after thirty-five years he retired in 1984. He moved to Rotonda West in 1990 from Cheshire, CT and had been a member of the V.F.W. Post 10178, American Legion Post 113, P.B.O. Elks Lodge 2378. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Frank had many passions in life. First and foremost was his family, whom he loved dearly. He loved to cook and bake, creating all the Italian traditional favorites at Christmas and Easter. Music and dancing was a big part of his life. He taught line dancing at the Village on the Isle. Gardening was one of his favorite hobbies including growing his own cucuzza squash. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years: Molly R. Pomarico of Venice, FL; two daughters: Barbara and her husband Louis Tonelli of Springfield, MA; Rita Pomarico of Portland, ME; two sons: John F. and his wife Eileen Pomarico of Venice, FL; Frank C. and his wife Eva Pomarico of Ft. Myers, FL; two sisters; Angelina Ferrara of North Haven, CT; Emily and her husband John Cycenas of Manchester, CT; two brothers: Louis and his wife Bali Pomarico of Hamden CT; George and his wife Susan Pomarico of Summerville, FL; nine grand children: Vincent and Stephen Pomarico, Kristen Wrisley and her husband Eric, Matthew and Alyssa Tonelli, Frank and Nicholas Sprague, Mark and Sarah Pomarico and two great grandchildren: Nicholas Sprague and Griffen Wrisley. He was pre-deceased by a son, Ralph in 1978. A Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11 Am at the Epiphany Cathedral Church, 350 West Tampa in Venice. Committal in the Epiphany Memorial Garden with military honors will follow. Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been selected to handle arrangements.
