Obituary of Edwin A Klinkhammer

Edwin Arthur Klinkhammer, 85, of Englewood died on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Doctor's Hospital of Sarasota. Born on November 12, 1924 in New Haven, Connecticut he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Mr. Klinkhammer worked for Getty Oil as a driver for thirty-nine years prior to his retirement in 1982. During his working years he was the union representative with the AFLCIO, Oil Chemical & Atomic Workers Union. He moved to Englewood in 1983 from West Haven, CT. Klink was a member of the Edgewater Club and the Edgewater Alley Cats Bowling League; and the V.F.W. Post 10476 of Rotonda West. He was a state champion of the West Haven Recreation League in CT, excelling in horse shoe pitching. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years; Stephanie in 1999. Survivors include his son: Edwin A. (Charlotte) Klinkhammer of North Branford, CT; two grand children: Ensign E. Kyle Klinkhammer, USN and Erika Amber Klinhkammer; many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion: Doris Schropp of Englewood. A memorial gathering will be held Friday, January 8, 2010 at 10 AM the Edgewater Club in Englewood.
