Obituary of Dorothy Dottie Mizerak

Dorothy "Dottie" Mizerak, 79, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Little Falls, New York, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, October 31, 2009. Dottie was born in Mohawk, New York, on July 23, 1930, daughter of the late Samuel and Anna (Viskup) Maytan. She graduated from the Owen D. Young High School. On June 21, 1952, she was joined in marriage with Steve Mizerak and they began their lives together in Little Falls. Steve predeceased her on July 13, 1995, following a long illness. Dottie attended beauty school and established her own business, Dottie's Beauty Salon, which she operated for over thirty years, first on Ward street and then on Main, in Little Falls. She always enjoyed her annual trips to New York City where she attended the hair shows to learn the latest techniques and enjoy the city with her friends. Dottie was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church serving in many capacities. Always active in community affairs, she was particularly proud of her involvement in establishing the annual Canal Days Celebration. Dottie moved to Venice, Florida in December, 1995, leaving snowy upstate New York for the sun and warmth of Florida. It didn't take long for her to begin working again as a beautician, join the Emmanual Lutheran Church and begin volunteering at the Bons Secours-Venice Hospital where she was recognized for contributing over 1000 hours. A fantastic cook and baker, she loved hosting gatherings in her home. Dottie had lifelong friends whom she held close to her heart over the years, and she quickly added a group of very special people to this circle upon moving to Florida. At times she faced challenges, but she loved her life, and family and friends meant everything to Dottie. She will be greatly missed by many, especially her family. Dottie leaves her daughter, Deborah and her husband Paul Simeone, of Princeton, Massachusetts, and her son, Gary and his wife Angela Imperioli, of Holden, Massachusetts, her grandchildren, Nicholas, Calla, Evan and Elise, her brother Martin Mayton and his wife Jean, brother-in-law, Steve Pribis, her nieces Arlene Maytan and Eleanor Walthart, Linda and her husband John Shutts, Cathy and her husband Daniel Collins, and her nephews, Mark Mayton and his wife Linda, and Steve Pribis and his wife Lynne, and cousins in Myjava, Slovakia, and Vienna, Austria. Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Samuel, his wife, Betty, her sister, Anna, and her niece, Karen. A memorial service will be held in New York at a future date.
