Obituary of John Kanarsky

John Safron Kanarsky, 85, of Englewood, FL Formerly of Wappingers Falls, NY died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Port Charlotte. He was born on August 25, 1923 in New York, New York to Safron and Elizabeth (Klinsevich) Kanarsky. John retired from I.B.M. in East Fishkill, NY after 32 years. He moved to the Englewood area in 1986 for his love of the beach and fishing. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW-II after graduating from the Academy of Aeronautics in NY. He was an usher for the Texas Rangers at their spring training Facility in Port Charlotte and played on the senior men's softball team. John was an active member of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church in Venice serving on the Church Council and was one of the founders of St. Gregory's Orthodox Church in Wappingers Falls, NY. Survivors include his wife of 53 years; Laura A. Kanarsky of Englewood, FL: one son; Thomas (Catherine) Kanarsky of Hopewell Junction, NY: one daughter; Valerie (Patrick) Marolda of Sudbury, MA: two sisters; Olga Orishyn of Aiken, SC., Nadia Tereshko of Hudson, FL and 5 grandchildren; Rachel, Michael, Roman, Stephan and Max.. A Funeral Service will be held at Holy Spirit Orthodox Church 700 Shamrock Blvd. Venice, FL 34292 on Sunday, May 24 at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private. Memorial Contributions may be made in Mr. Kanarsky's name to Holy Spirit Orthodox Church or Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care 5955Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238.
