Polly Gonzalez (Kathy Pauline Martin) of Englewood Florida, went home to be Jesus, Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Polly was born to parents John and Mildred Martin on June 7, 1958 in Minden , Louisiana. She was the fourth child and the baby of the family. Polly graduated from Leesville High School in 1976. She briefly attended university before she married and started her family. Polly had three children, Becky, Katie, and David. She spent 24 years devoted to the primary care of her children, working various jobs as needed to support her family. After a divorce and her youngest child (David) graduated from high school, Polly continued her education at the University of Central Florida where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management. She spent the rest of her career working as medical coder for multiple Florida hospitals until retiring in 2021. In 2022 Polly’s son David Gonzalez passed away. Polly is survived by her daughters Becky Schwartz and Katie Cooke; Son in-laws Jason Cooke and Andy Schwartz; Grandchildren: Charlotte Cooke, Noah Cooke, and Grant Schwartz; Siblings: John B. Martin Jr, Ronnie K. Martin, and Rebecca Denning; and their spouses: Cheryl Martin, James Denning; Nieces and Nephews: Amanda Lacaze, Michael Martin, James Denning Jr., Timothy Denning, and Emily Gilliard as well as nine grand nieces and nephews. Polly was adventurous and full of life. In her youth she rode her family horses. She played flute in the school band, loved swimming, boating, water skiing, riding motorcycles, scuba diving and traveling. She played intramural sports and also loved to read both fiction and non-fiction, and enjoyed learning. She loved to laugh, be silly, and had a fun sense of humor never taking herself too seriously and making life as light as she could for herself and those around her. Faith and family were the most important parts of Polly’s life and evident in how she spent the majority of her time, in humble service. She loved the Lord and scripture, placing the most value in following and trusting His word. She gave special attention to her children and grandchildrens spiritual upbringing, teaching them about Jesus and sharing her faith. She was a devoted and exceedingly loving mother to her three children and “Gigi” to her grandchildren. She took not only special care of her family’s needs but also went far above and beyond to provide the best even when she was tired and sick . She volunteered in children's church, coached children's sports teams, and spent many hours driving and attending soccer, band, church, practices, rehearsals, games, and events all for the benefit of her family. She deeply loved her siblings John B, Ronnie, and Becky as well as their spouses and all of her nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. She was the biggest comfort and will be dearly missed by all of her family. A viewing will be held at Englewood Community Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, 4-6 pm. 3070 South McCall Road, Englewood Fl 34224. The memorial service will be held at Fellowship Church of Englewood , Thursday, May 25, 2023 12:00 pm.130 Rotonda Blvd West, Rotonda W Florida 33947. Burial will immediately follow the service at Venice Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved son David Gonzalez.
