The life of Scott John Schmitz

Scott John Schmitz passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the age of 41 years, four days with his loving family at his side. Thursday, March 2, 2023 Scott’s funeral service will be held at Englewood Community Funeral Home 3070 South McCall Road, Englewood, FL from 3:30-5:00 pm. Scott was born February 15, 1982 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Gaylene Schmitz. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Scott attended Saint Joseph’s Catholic school kindergarten through 6th grade. He graduated from Lafayette high school in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota with the class of 2000. He attended Northland community college in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

On December 8, 2014, Scott married the love of his life, Irina Kyrychenko. To this union are two children, Mark and Maya. Scott was a hard-working, big hearted, loving person who was raised on the family farm in Minnesota. He played several sports while in school. He enjoyed his time with family, working on cars with his friends, snowmobiling, outdoor activities, and helping work on the farm.

After moving to Florida, he enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach and many outdoor activities. He was the soccer coach for his son’s team. He enjoyed his travels with his family to his wife’s home country of Ukraine and around Europe. He enjoyed Hydroponic gardening and created a small greenhouse to teach his children about gardening.

After hurricane Ian hit the area in September, he went to work nonstop, helping in assisting people with whatever they needed. He was always willing to help anyone.

Scott is survived by his wife Irina and children Mark and Maya. His parents Edward and Gaylene Schmitz. Brothers Allen (Donna) Schmitz, Jeffrey (Veronica) Schmitz, Rodney (Tricia) Schmitz, sister Janelle (Dave) Wicklund. Nieces and nephews Brittney (Abe) Ewert, Tyler (Emily) Schmitz, Amanda Wicklund (friend Jay Casella), Megan Wicklund, Hailey Schmitz, Hunter Schmitz, Eduardo Schmitz, Santiago Schmitz, Diego Schmitz, Great-niece Blair Schmitz. Mother-in-law Lyubov Kyrychenko. Brother-in-law Arteom Kyrychenko. Family friend Alex Litovka. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, one aunt, three  uncles, and a cousin.
