Obituary of Hager Allen Barnthouse

It is with much love, respect and adoration that we mourn the passing of Hager Allen Barnthouse, Sr. who unexpectedly departed to Heaven on February 8, 2022 after a brief illness at age 75. Hager was born in Willard, Ohio on May 21, 1946. He was the youngest of seven children and remained close to each of his six siblings during his and their lifetimes. Hager attended South Central High School in Greenwich, Ohio where he was a star half-back for the Trojans Football team; he played baseball as well. Incredibly athletic, Hager liked to accentuate this fact by performing, without warning or announcement, standing back or front flips to the amusement and awe of his friends and family. Hager was also a proud veteran and honorably discharged from the Navy before becoming a police officer for several years in Ashland, Ohio. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in both endeavors and often regaled his friends and family with stories of his experiences, adventures and exploits. However, it was in industry that Hager would make his mark as an engineer for Plastic Molders Supply (PMS) and later on in life as an entrepreneur with multiple businesses that he, in partnership his wife Vicki, started or owned including Dependable Uniform, Valley Beach Park, Reliable Trucking, Dependable Trucking, Oscars Pizza, Kings Motor City, Englewood Auto Sales and Gulf Coast Counseling, to name a few. Hager was known as a devoted and loving father, husband, and grandfather and was a follower of Jesus Christ. He was a talented story-teller known for his incredible sense of humor, quick-thinking wit and generosity toward others. He was an honest man with an incredible work ethic, vigorous intellect and was always the first person to arrive to lend a hand when anyone needed help. At the time of his passing, Hager was living in Rotonda West, FL with his childhood sweetheart, love of his life, and wife of 56 years, Vicki (Brown) Barnthouse to whom he remained completely devoted his entire life. He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his son, Hager Barnthouse, Jr.; his daughter, Yvonne Halunen; and his six grandchildren: Amber Lynn Shaw, Brandon Barnthouse, Madison Barnthouse, Bailey Halunen, Michael Halunen and Jacob Halunen as well as his remaining sister, Catherine Maxine Hawks. He was predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Carrie (Patrick) Barnthouse and his son, Leroy Edward Barnthouse III and siblings: Lauren Barnthouse, Shirley Moser, Kermit Barnthouse, Mary Deskins and Fred Barnthouse. We will remember and honor Hager with a Celebration of Life which will be held on March 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Englewood Community Funeral Home. Until then, friends, family and acquaintances are encouraged to share a photo, memory, story or even tall tale (Hager would like that) at www.englewoodfh.com In lieu of flowers, or monetary donations, we kindly ask that you please consider giving the gift of life by donating blood in his memory.
