Obituary of Johanna Ruth Gertz

Johanna Ruth Gertz, 34, of Englewood, Florida, unexpectedly passed from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 29th, 2021. Johanna was born to Jon and Joan Gertz in Louisville, Kentucky on December 10, 1986. Johanna is survived by her parents, Jonathan and Joan (Hewitt) Gertz, Rotonda West, Florida, and her brother, Jonathan Gertz, Brooklyn, New York. She was predeceased by her grandparents Reinhart and Marion Gertz and Marvin and Willena Hewitt. Johanna grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2010. She lived in Brooklyn, New York until March of 2020, when she moved to Englewood, near her parents. Johanna created art her whole life. She loved life. She loved the beach. She was a bright light and friend to everyone she met. She lived life on her own terms and freely shared her gifts with everyone. Johanna's family thanks the kind staff at Englewood Community Hospital for their attentive care in her last hours, and the many friends who supported us in a difficult time. Final arrangements are by Englewood Community Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at Loudon House, 209 Castlewood Drive in Lexington on Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to share in a luncheon afterwards at Daybreak Community Church, 210 East Reynolds Road. Memorial donations may be made to the Lexington Art League in care of Loudon House.
