Obituary of Dennis W. Schielie

Dennis W. Schielie 11/13/1942 - 12/18/2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denny Schielie, at Englewood Hospice House, his wife by his side. Survived by his loving wife, Janis Brush, his children, Sean (Jodi) of Plainfield, IL, Tracey (Dave Balicki) of Naperville, IL, Amy Bruntyn (Brad) of Cary, IL, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his brother Tim. Denny will also be missed by many friends. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Dorothy (Beeman), and brothers Michael and Jack. Born in Des Plaines, IL, in 1942, Denny went on to serve in the USMC, stationed in CA. After returning to IL, Denny spent 33 years on the Des Plaines Fire Dept., retiring in 2002 as a Battalion Commander. When he wasn't putting out fires, or not rescuing a cat in a tree (he'd always say "have you ever seen a dead cat in a tree"), he was often on the hunt for the cheapest beer in town. Success never alluded him. After retiring, he moved to Englewood, FL, where he remained till his death. Denny enjoyed golfing, hanging out with friends and family, and his fur babies, Ellis and Lucy. He was also a Cubs and Bears fan, although he was often left disappointed. Denny was a member of the IAFF, IPFA, Elks and Moose (the latter two because of the cheap drinks I'm sure). He enjoyed life and had his great sense of humor till the end. He would want you to have a beer and raise your glass. If he owed you a beer, good luck with that. He will be greatly missed. Per Denny's wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Tidewell Hospice,Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34238, Alzheimer's Assoc. 3277-A Fruitville Rd. #1 Sarasota, FL 34237, or a charity of your choice.
