I will always be grateful for the time Glenn spent in Chicago as #18 and star second baseman for the Cubs. He was an integral part of the team, but Glenn Beckert was so much more. He was a role model of drive, dedication, and desire. In a sport where power hitters achieve great glory, he chose instead, to perfect the art of moving the runner along in any way he could to maximize a winning outcome. Glenn was a student of baseball who analyzed his role both at the plate and on the field. He was an All-Star, a Golden Glove Award recipient, a respected clutch hitter and a notoriously hard man to strike out. As many sportscasters have mentioned, he was a "Class Act"! I can attest to that as he graciously stopped to talk with his fans, pose for a picture or accommodated a request for an autograph. The game of baseball was better for his playing. I am a better person having the opportunity to watch him play. Thank you for many cherished memories, Glenn!

Glenn Beckert Family: So sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I really enjoyed watching him play. He is and was a talented athlete. Way back in the 1970's, I worked at a place called Spinnaker Cove. My company installed concrete foundations. Your father allowed me to use the family sailboat. I was able to use it whenever I wanted. Your Dad's only rule was that I would teach his daughters to sail! I'm not sure if I was such a good teacher. But I tried. I trust I helped a little. Anyway, I appreciated the sailing time! Our family, is thinking of you and Mary Bruce at this time. Sincerely, Scott A.M. Sams and Family. scotydsntknw@yahoo.com

I have such fond memories of watching Glenn play for the Cubs and then many years later, as a long time Cubs employee myself, sharing so many fun times with he, Mary Bruce and his former Cubs teammate family at the Annual Cubs Convention.
My sincere condolences to Mary Bruce and his family. I hope your memories can be of some comfort to you at this difficult time.

Glenn's Mom, Grace, was my cousin (Geyer). I remember Glenn as just starting out in professional baseball. Nice person. I am so sorry to learn of his passing.
