Obituary of Charles Manly

Charles Gibson Manly Charles G. Manly, 76 of Rotonda West, FL., died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at his Charlotte County residence. Born July 14, 1932 in Camilla, GA to Harold C. and Mattie P. (Gibson) Manly. Prior to joining the Army in June of 1965 Charles served in the North Alabama Conference of Methodist Church as a minister at various churches. Mr. Manly served in the U.S. Army as a chaplain for over 24 years retiring at the rank of LTC. During his service he received the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver and three Bronze Service Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device and four Overseas Service Bars. Upon retirement he taught at Chapman College in Colorado Springs, CO and for many years had a private practice for marriage and family therapy. He is certified by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist. Charles loved the Lord and the people in his life. He loved to cook for his family and friends, he enjoyed the Florida sunsets and travel with his wife Martha. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 54 years; Martha: two daughters; Denise Manly Dalgarn (Colin) of Camarillo, CA., Marian Manly Willis (Rusty) of Ft. Collins, CO., Charles G. Manly, Jr. (Nancy) of Colorado Springs, CO and seven grandchildren; Erik, Caroline, Brian, Adam, Avalon, Jana and Kaitlyn. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Englewood United Methodist Church on Monday, February 23 at 1:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to: Englewood Helping Hand 700 E.
